I thought to do something light hearted this time around. Food is always an inspiration so here goes! I do not
generally do food blogging, but there is always a first time I hear and here is
mine.
So over the
last weekend, I have been to this amazing little café in Hyderabad called the
Orka Café. It is pretty new in town and has been grabbing a lot of attention
for its ambience and healthy food options. If you are going there hoping for
some deep-fried munchies, then forget about it, the best you can get is sweet
potato fries, that too baked. But hey, they aren’t nearly as bad to be
honest (just that one of my friend, who expected some real fries and fried options, wasn’t too
pleased about it :p, you know who you are - take you for comfort food next time okay promise!).
We tried
quite a few stuff there and all of them were equally amazing. I started with a Matcha
detox (I know like what the hell right?). It wasn’t too bad to be honest or as
much as it sounds, they serve it with some honey in a cutesy jar (stealing it
the next time!). Unfortunately, I was the only one who ate non-veg at that entire
table and I ordered in a chicken satay with a peanut dip, wanting to feel like
my Asian self, which I have been missing for a while. However, it wasn’t satay per
se and more like chicken skewers (tikka) which I guess they need to work on if
they want it to taste like the real one, otherwise if you don’t think of it as
satay, it works just fine.
Another thing
which was really interesting was the baked sago fritters, which was a hit among
everyone. It was just the right amount of flavours, which was not too overpowering.
Also, they used sweet potato (usually made with normal potatoes) with the sago,
which actually for a change elevated it taste, by adding bit of a sweetness which
was natural.
Oh and how
can I forget the pizza, you can select from the options of bases (all thin crust)
and even the base spread. We went for the multigrain base with a pesto spread
with veggie toppings. Sounds different? Tasted even different but in a good
way. Do make sure to try it out when if you visit.
Saved the
best for the last! The dessert! The oats cocoa waffles with chocolate chips and
a berry sauce at the side. One of the best waffles I had in town, like for real,
that too made with oats. We all lunged at it and literally finished it in 2
minutes. They have many other amazing dessert options, which I will try the
next time I visit, there was literally no space in tummy after all this! We finished the evening with another round of teas, coffees and hot chocolates. I went for their mint and orange infused tea, which was super refreshing and easy on the tummy after all that I stuffed myself with. An afternoon well spent with some of the best people I know in this city.
Not just
that, you can also buy variois pots and plants, and also some cups and stuff. These are all handmade from the
pottery classes they hold, so be sure to ask one of the staff members and check them
out, they are super adorable.
P.S. What
is your favourite café in your town and what do you like the most about it? I have
always wanted to open a cozy café for the longest time and I hope one day that
would be possible (throwing it at the universe). Also, how do you like this
food blog? Let me know your views so I can come up with more in the future.
Very interesting. Time to go food hopping
